The Network of Public Interest Lawyers (NETPIL) are strongly calling on the Ugandan government to consider elevating the local base laws and policies on land to meet international standards as this will help provide a conducive environment for even the speechless to have maximum protection against the well off when it comes to land issues.
According to Arthur Nsereko, the Coordinator NETILP mentions that the current problems arising from land matters across the country are as a result of the national laws and policies that do not conform to globally accepted standards which the legal experts want government to critically address to facilitate the observation and protection of people’s rights when it comes to land matters.
He further stresses that the current forms of land ownership in Uganda are a great hindrance to personal and national economic development which may again deter Uganda from smoothly attaining her 2020 target.
