The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) together with the Ministry of Education and Sports are finalizing a draft new bill that seeks punitive measures against examination malpractices.
The new bill titled UNEB Act 2016 places stricter penalties to head teachers, teachers and students involved in exam malpractices from primary leaving exams up to Uganda advanced certificate of education.
Speaking during a media editors’ dinner at Hotel Africana, the new Executive Secretary of UNEB, Dan Nokrach Odongo, said that the existing law, enacted in 1983 is outdated and that it does not provide deterrent penalties against offenders citing a fine not exceeding of 50,000 Shillings which he said invites crime.
