Members of Parliament on Wednesday grilled ministry of health officials over failure to give the Auditor General designs used to secure funding from World Bank for the renovation and construction of 46 health units across the country.
MPs discovered that the officers in charge of this project headed by Francis Wakabi shelved the designs which could have been used to arrive at the bill of quantities to get funding for the project.
MPs were suspicious that the officers charged with work could have denied the Auditor General the project designs so that they could inflate the costs.
They also noted that the ministry of health did not carry out the comprehensive needs assessment on the 46 health units which include 2 regional referral hospitals, 17 general hospitals and 27 health Centre IVs in Nakaseke, Nakasongola, Moyo, Nebbi, Kiryandongo among others.
