MPs have asked accomplices in illegal sand mining to produce their Chinese partners

The Natural Resources Committee of Parliament has directed Lukaya sand dealers to produce the Chinese individuals whom they say are dealing in sand illegally.

The directive was issued by the vice chairperson of the committee who is also the MP for Kiboga East, Dr.Keefa Kiwanuka, the committee members noted that the  two Chinese workers Chen Yunmwei and Chen Zhong they found during their tour visit of the sand mining site last month do not have valid work permits.
MPs on the committee who include; Soroti Municipality, Herbart Ariko, Kyankwanzi district Woman MP, Anna Maria Nankabirwa, observed that the two Chinese worker’s permits were in the custody of the firm’s director who while appearing before the committee denied through a translator  knowing  Fred Mayanja.
Kiwanuka just like most committee members wondered why the foreigners are working the in the country without permits.

Meanwhile, Nankabirwa also wondered why the Chinese directors Sun and partner ZhengXianzhong gained interest in mining sand in Uganda of all potential investments.

The MPs are also faulting the firms for mining sand in less than the required distance of 200metres from the main road, and that it’s failing to meet the conditions of its permit from National Environment Management Authority.
