Lucy Aciro Otim, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Aruu North Constituency in Pader district.

The Member of Parliament for Aruu North in Pader district, Lucy Achiro Otim, has revealed that  women politicians face mistreatment from men when they challenge them for the direct Parliamentary seats in their respective districts.

She says that men blackmail women when they assess that have support to win them in elections.

“They resort to calling us prostitutes and all sorts of names that deem women in society.A number of women have suffered this time of abuse and most have even given up on joining politics.This is not a good sign given that the women movement is striving hard to empower them in taking up responsibilities that are predominantly handled by men, ” Otim says.

Otim says that some men send a group of youth to beat women they are contesting with and that in some cases they even rape them.
She calls on women organizations to empower women to be strong to challenge men for any elective position.
