The Commissioner Relief and Disaster Preparedness Management in the Prime Minister’s office,Owor John Martin, has revealed that food relief sent to food insecure areas in the country is meant for only the selected vulnerable families and not all the families in the affected districts.
Speaking at the flagging off point for food relief to the districts of Kalungu and Kamuli with each district receiving 300 bags of both beans and posho, Owor confirmed that the families have been identified and selected by local government leaders noting that only child headed families, families headed by widows, those with the sick and those with Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) are the only ones meant to benefit from the food relief sent by government that is meant to take them for 20 days per family.
He also added that more food will be sent to other affected areas but still cautions the general public to reservedly spear food for more tough times ahead.
However, the Senior Store Manager, Musisi Charles, says they distribute the same amount of food relief to each district they send to as he assures that food in the store will be enough for the hit areas that’s if the crisis does not stretch for a very long period of time.
Government is now spending 3billion daily to feed families that have no food across the country as statistics show that Uganda needs 36billion to feed her drought affected population daily.
