The Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA) has  revealed plans of  setting tough guidelines for its members that have to be strictly followed in a bid  to save the environment which they say is being degraded at an alarming speed.

Godfrey Ssali, an official at UMA while discussing a paper on climate change justice, mentioned that among the guidelines they had to set include; that all companies should  have environmental desks, harvest water, set garbage selection centers, avoid waste spill over into wetlands and water sources nearby avoid emission of dangerous gases among others.

He further notes that most their members were very reluctant to practicing environment friendly manufacturing but that now that guidelines have been set, this will come to pass  given that the country is moving towards setting up more industrial parks where now factories and industries are supposed to be built.

However, discussions at UMA show grounds in Lugogo, Youths under the Youth Go Green Umbrella  also reminded government to include them in the environmental policies and programmes being drafted to equip them with the relevant and basic knowledge on how to save the environment to combat climate change effects.
