Masindi CAO, Finance Officer told to account for 200m pensioner’s money

MASINDI CAO, FINANCE OFFICER GRILLED OVER UG.SH 200M

Masindi district council  has ordered  the Chief Administrative Officer, Christopher Okumu, and the principle internal auditor, David Baguma to account for 200 million shillings meant for pensioners in the district that was allegedly misappropriated.

The duo was grilled on Friday during the extra ordinary council meeting held at Masindi district headquarters.

The money was meant to cater for the gratuity of three people who retired from active civil service at Masindi district local government including; Blasto Byabakama; the former district production officer, Milton Mugungu, the former District community development officer and late Iren Tumusiime the former Kimengo sub county community development officer.

The directive follows complaints raised by district councilors led by Julian Sarah Ayesiga, the councilor representing Miirya Sub County who said she was disappointed to see the money which came last financial year failing to reach the beneficiaries.

The secretary for finance, Kanaginagi Ateenyi, informed the council that he has tried to get an explanation from the CAO’s office in vain.

The LC5 Chairperson Byaruhanga Cosmas says the two have been given up to the next council sitting to come up with a detailed report for the funds that were allegedly diverted before further action is taken.
