According to Bukenya, the acts of police particularly those of the arresting officer Gilbert Arinaitwe were brutal and should be condemned.

The VP however, also had no kind words for the opposition who also continue to beat the police cops, saying such brutality caused by what he called the Anywars (MP Beatrice Anywar) against police should also be condemned.

He said unlike in other countries like US, Britain and France where police is the most respected institution where people run for assistance, in Uganda even civilians slap policemen yet these very cops are their last resort for peace.

Bukenya was officiating at the World Press Freedom Day celebrations last evening in Kampala where he said that government where he works fully supports the media but however, encouraged the media to guard against exposing national secrets, pornography and should also invest in investigative journalism.

He challenged scribes to always observe the principles of objectivity, fairness and accuracy to avoid criticism and injuring other peoples’ reputation.
