MP Kubeketerya says that the government has hitherto failed to curtail the environmental degradations happening in Uganda and needs to design new strategies.

He is calling for among the things, the establishment of environmental courts to handle environmental cases and introduction of environment subjects into the secondary school curriculum.

Kubeketerya says that with the existing laws people have continued to invade the wetlands and forests despite the negative impacts of their activities. He says when such people are brought to courts of law, there are lots of delays in handling environment cases.

He said that environmental courts will help in charging the wetland invaders as soon as they are caught and by teaching environment in schools will help the youth in understanding the dangers of having the environment being tampered with.
