The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) President, Retired Col. Dr. Kiiza Besigye has been invited by government to attend his political rival’s swearing-in ceremony.
President Meseveni of the National Resistance Movement party will be sworn in on May 12 at Kololo airstrip to start his other five years rule for the third consecutive term as an elected President of Uganda.
Beatrice Wabudeya, Minister for Presidency, says that the function being of national character, government has decided to invite Dr. Besigye and other heads of political parties.
She asks the members of the opposition to honor the invitation because it will be a public function not National Resistance Movement (NRM) party function.
Wabudeya says the country will host various dignitaries from different countries across the world for the function.
However, there is a strong likelihood that the FDC boss and other opposition political leaders will not attend the function as they have never accepted the outcome of the February 18 elections that showed Museveni a winner by 68% followed by Besigye at 26%.
Getting a comment from Dr. Besigye was not possible as he is still in Kenya for treatment after he was assaulted by the government security personnel in the walk to work protest of April 28. He is expected back next week.
