Members of Parliament have declined to extend the cabinet term of office after the government Attorney General Kiddu Makubiya failed to rightly cite the clause for extension of the ministers office.
The MPs say President Yoweri Museveni is being sworn in on 12th May 2011 and he should appoint a new cabinet as soon as possible.
The extension of the cabinet life was brought in parliament by the Prime Minister Prof. Apollo Nsibambi, who is the leader of government business.
The MPs who included Samuel Odonga Otto, Hussein kyanjo and Nandala Mafabi rejected the proposal for the president to extend the ministers term of office for a week.
MP Nandala asked the ministers to hand over their office by midnight on Wednesday to avoid legal implications on activities they undertake in the capacity as ministers.
The term of office for all ministers is expiring today with the expiry of the term of the current 8th parliament.
Later the Speaker of parliament Edward Kiwanuka Sekandi adjourned the house for 10 minutes for consultation and when they resumed the prime minister told the MPs that the president abandoned his proposal of one week cabinet extension and he will announce a new cabinet after his swearing in on Thursday.
