The youth Members of Parliament have welcomed government’s budgetary allocations of creating employment among the youth, giving them loans and extending to them entrepreneurial training but raised concerned of criteria of implementation.

In her budget speech on Wednesday, Finance minister Maria Kiwanuka allocated 44.5 billion shillings to create jobs among the youth, avail loans ranging from 100,000 to start or expand their businesses, which would be implemented by DFCU Bank, a youth entrepreneurial training programme implemented by Enterprise Uganda among others.

Addressing a press conference at Parliament this morning, the five MPs representing the five regions are contesting government’s move. The MPs are suggesting a criteria, which they say would be ideal for government to address problems affecting the youth in the country

The National Youth MP Monicah Amoding is questioning how government is going to channel the loans to the youth.

The Eastern Uganda Youth MP Peter Ogwang is asking government to address the problem of unemployment among the youth before thinking about pushing the youth into loans. Ogwang also demanded government to use the already established national youth council to provide the services to the youth track
