Government asked to be transparent in implementing 2011/2012 national budget

Ant-corruption activists are calling for accountability and transparency in the implementation of the national budget. The record 9.8 trillion budgets are considered as the highest in the country’s economic history compared to the last years 7.5 trillion budget.

According to the financial minister Maria Kiwanuka Semakula this years’ national budget will primarily focus on infrastructure development, energy, creating employment opportunities, agriculture among others.

The executive director Anti-corruption Uganda Cissy Kagaba says it is paramount for the various arms of government do emphasize zero tolerance to corruption and ensures that the budget is effectively implemented.

She however said government should come up clearly and show the public the right procedures in awarding tax wavers, incentives, and tax holidays if we are to get rid of corruption tendencies.
