Amuru district has at least recovered 25 million shillings that was taken as advance by some civil servants before they were transferred to Nuya district. The chief administrative officer Martin Kasule says the money was part of the 78 million that was borrowed by civil servants.
He says a team from the president’s office is still following other officials to recover all the money.
Kasule says the affected officials have been given up to the end of this financial year to refund all the money they received in advance or risk being prosecuted.
Amuru resident district commission Milton Odong says they are still following up all the officials concerned to ensure they return the money.
Last month four officials including Nuya senior account assistant Geoffrey Ochira, district vector control officer Denis Luwum the nursing officer George Watimon and a copy typist Judith were arrested before failing to account for the money.
Ochira Luwum and Watimon are accused of failing to account for 41, 17, and 19 million shillings respectively which Okello is accused for failing to account for 204000 shillings.
At that time the community services manager Michael Opoka who was also being sort by police died a few hours before his arrest.
Noya LCV chairman Patrick Okello Oryema says the suspects got the money from the health and community service department in 2009 while still employed in Amuru district.
