Uganda is working with other countries in the development of the Arms Trade Treaty which is part of the international efforts to put in place stringent measure to curtail illegal arms Trade.
This has been revealed by the minister of Internal Affairs Hilary Onek while explaining the Uganda’s commitment to curb the problem of small Arms and light weapons in the country and East Africa as a region.
Onek said that illicit small arms are a direct threat to the security, political stability, social progress and economic development on the country and the region as a whole.
He added that government is in process of reviewing laws on fire arms and ammunitions to ensure that issues of small arms are adequately addressed and include severe and deterrent punishments for offenders.
