The Mayor of the newly created Kasese municipality Godfrey Kabyanga has ordered the demolition of illegal, close houses with poor health facilities and depleted structures in the town.
In his campaign to keep Kasese town clean Kabyanga said that some illegal structures have been built without respecting the physical plan of the municipal council.
He said that depleted houses including one for the LC3 chairman central division Johnson Kasaija on Speke street should be demolished.
‘We shall begin with the demolition of the building of our chairperson so that people see this exercises being done in justice Kabyanga said.
He was on Monday conducting an inspection exercise with his technical staff to ascertain the level tidiness in the town.
‘We want to bring a new era in this new town, we real want to paint new by re-planning it in some areas and ensure that businesses are done in the right place’ he said.
He threatened to mobilize the general public to demolish the illegal and depleted structures if his technical staff failed to do so.
‘If it requires mobilizing the people to do it on your behalf I will do it and I know how to do it, otherwise my technical staff should start doing their work’ a tough looking Kabyanga said.
He was reacting to a plan of erecting a structure in a water drainage channel along the Kilembe road. The structure has already been built to rig-beam level.
He urged the business community not to pay taxes if the urban council fails to provide better services to them.
However traders in Sauri Yako market in the central division complained of poor health facilities in the market.
They accused the owner of the market a traditional doctor Sabstaino Bakoko for failing to construct functional toilets in the market.
During his election campaign early this year mayor Kabyanga promised to clean the town within one hundred days after he has assumed office. Many are yet to see if this will be achieved.
