The latest maternal mortality survey in Uganda indicates that about 14 women die daily around the country due to reproductive complications which include pregnancy and child birth.

The year has 365/6 days. This means about 5124 women die annually in Uganda due to reproductive complications.

Child birth is still dangerous for women in Uganda

 Irene Akena, the national midwifery advisor in the ministry of health says the 2015 goal number five may not be achieved in Uganda because midwives are still few.

The President of Uganda Private Midwifery Association, Sakina Kiggundu says there’s need to train mothers to prepare for their newly born babies.

Uganda will on 5thMay 2010 join the rest of the world in commemorating the world Midwifery day. The national events will be at Namboole stadium in Kampala under the theme, “Midwives are needed now more than ever.”
