The prime minister of Uganda Amama Mbabazi has attributed the current crisis economic to the opposition walk to work campaign.

Speaking to journalists in Kampala today, Mbabazi said that the walk to work campaign tarnished the image of the country abroad and foreigners’ started fearing visiting Uganda.

He said that before the campaign there was enough dollars in the country and after the campaign Uganda started experiencing shortages in dollars which has led to further depreciation of a shilling.

The prime minister’s claim was however dismissed by the shadow minister of finance Geoffrey Ekanya Who said that the campaign itself did not tarnish the country’s name but the way government handled the campaign.

Ekanya said that inhuman treatment of the people who were participating in the walk to work campaign by government authorities demonstrated that Uganda government does not respect human rights.
