Power distributors Umeme and Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the testing of meters before they are installed in customers’ homes.
Charlotte Kemigyisha, the Umeme Corporate Communications Officer says the move will make Umeme meters more trusted by power consumers.
“We believe that our customers will have more confidence in the meters operating in their homes knowing that they have been tested and approved by UNBS,” Kemigyisha said.
She says this is because UNBS is a statutory organization established that promotes the use of national standards and to develop quality.
Kemigyisha says UMEME will provide training for UNBS staff in the use of equipment supplied by UMEME and develop a communication strategy for customers’ awareness and sensitization in order to ensure power consumers get the best value from the meter.
