Kinkizi east mp who is also the commissioner of parliament DR Chris Baryomunsi is opposed to the president’s suggestion on denying suspects bail.
Baryomunsi says that the proposal in question is against the law because without offering bail to suspects it means that courts are convicting someone without trial.
He says that much as the president has the right to express his views he should go through on certain aspects.
He added on that whatever is causing problems in the country is politics and therefore must be solved using political solutions than interfering with the laws. He says that amending the constitution is not necessary in Uganda today saying that what is needed is handling issues in a proper way.
The President made a suggestion that parliament amends the constitution to deny bail to suspects of particular crimes namely rape, defilement, treason, murder and economic sabotage. He said that if someone is accused of such crimes they should be detained for 6 months without applying for bail.
