Government is to revive the irrigation schemes country wide to enable farmers have enough water to irrigate their crops to increase on their crop production and harvest.
This was revealed by the minister of state for fisheries Ruth Nankabirwa while addressing MPS on Agriculture, fisheries and Animal industry at imperial Resort Beach Entebbe.
Nankabirwa said that the new irrigation schemes will be established in 33 districts and revive some of those which were out of operation.
She said that in some parts of the country food shortage is cause by drought and she added that if irrigations are set up in the country, farmers will get water for their crops all the time and produce enough food for the country and export to reduce on the inflation caused by food commodity shortage.
She revealed that by June 2012 rehabilitation of mobuku , Doho and Agoro irrigation schemes will be complete.
