The government has begun the construction of office premises for the office of the auditor General in Kampala.
The 13 storied building Audit house located on plot 2c Apollo Kagwa road next to ministry of foreign affairs is to cost the government of Uganda 37.35billion shillings.
The auditor’s general office currently has its offices scattered at the different ministries in Kampala due to lack of space.
Speaking at the ground breaking ceremony of the Audit house, the auditor general John Muwanga has said that the new structure will enable his office to operate more efficiently, independently , retain and motivate suitable staff.
However chairperson of the parliamentary committee on Finance planning and economic development a committee that over see the auditor generals office Frank Mwebaze wants the powers of the auditor generals amplified to even audit private companied that receive government funding.
