Vendors operating in Kampala have petitioned Kampala Capital City Authority, to reconsider the decision to force them off the streets.
KCCA last week issued an ultimatum of up to Monday September 5th for the vendors to leave the streets.
Over 20,000 vendors marched to the KCCA offices today and among their demands was a proposal to have them operate their businesses on Nasser and Nkrumah roads
They further requested that the council allows them to hold open markets in the evening when businesses at the malls and shopping arcades have been closed for the day.
The vendors also lamented over the high fees levied by the markets, which they say is unaffordable.
Last month, Kampala City Traders Association threatened to hold a strike, protesting over the presence of the traders, whom they accused of disrupting their businesses.
However, Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago has maintained that the move to evict the vendors is illegal and KCCA should halt the evictions, however the authority has since last night been carrying out the evictions.
