Bank of Uganda Governor Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile has laughed at Uganda’s opposition politicians who want him out of Bank of Uganda over reported abuse of office.
Mutebile says it is only one person in Uganda, President Museveni who can remove him from the post of governor bank of Uganda according to the Constitution of Uganda. Mutebile while addressing the press in Kampala on Thursday would sometime say that it is only GOD who can remove him from office and at a certain stage he would say it is only Museveni. This prompted one of the journalists from the daily Red Pepper, Walakira Nyanzi to collect Mutebile by telling him that it is only God who has the power to remove him from office but not Museveni. Here Mutebile smiled a bit and continued with his story.
Mutebile assured journalists and Ugandans at large that he is still holding the post of Bank of Uganda Governor for a long time. Mutebile also issued new monetary policy instruments. When a journalist from the daily monitor Mahad Senkabirwa told him that Museveni is likely to sack him, the governor said that he sees no reason why President Museveni should sack him. The members of the Public Accounts Committee of parliament recently indicted Mutebile over the role he reportedly played in the payment of over 142 billion shillings to a Kampala businessman, Hassan Basajjabalaba as compensation for the loss of business when his contract to run city markets was withdrawn on the orders of president Museveni.
