Today our health team has brought you the ways you can feed a baby who has lost appetite. Don’t force a child to eat when s/he has lost appetite.
When you force a baby to feed, the resulting stress can make the baby’s appetite worse. When the baby loses appetite, try as much as possible to make meal time fun time i.e include a game that leads to everyone taking a bite of food or a special toy a child can only have at meal times.
It may help to serve a small snack with meals-something a child likes to get them to start taking bites. Cut the baby’s foods into fun shapes or you can use small fruits to make a happy face on the plate.
It is ok if a child doesn’t eat much at meal. S/he may prefer more frequent small snacks throughout a day. Allow a child to participate in choosing his food, avoid sugary drinks because they can displace the more nutritious calories of foods like chicken or fruits.
Stick to fortified drinks like milk or 100% juice. If you have a trouble getting your child to drink milk, add a teaspoon of chocolate or strawberry-flavoured powder. Offering straws may also encourage your child to drink a healthy beverage.
