I used my position in state house to steal public funds

The former State House aide, ms Alice Kaboyo told the anti corruption court on Tuesday that she used her state house position in statehouse to embezzle public funds.

She told the court that she uttered false documents and abused office in a bid to accumulate wealth and enrich her family members in western Uganda.

Kaboyo however asked for forgiveness saying that the money she ate was so little as much of it was taken by her bosses whom she did not reveal their details.

Kaboyo and three former Health ministers, Alex Kamugisha, Mike Mukula and Brig. Jim Muhwezi are accused of misappropriating 1.6 billion shillings that was meant for the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (Gavi).

In a period between 2000 and 2007, Uganda received over $87 million from GAVI in support of a National Immunization Plan. But much of this money was reportedly misused by reportedly Kaboyo, and so many government officials and other people who were close to them.
