The Uganda Inspector General of Police Maj. Gen. Kale Kayihura has appealed to Uganda musicians to compose songs which promote national values and reduce crime in the country.
He says musician’s messages are effective in changing the attitudes of the masses because music, dance and drama appeals more to the public than other forms of communication.
Ugandan musicians including Jose Chameleon and Bobi Wine have been used by Uganda Electoral Commission to traverse the whole country mobilising and sensitizing people to participate in the on-going voter’s register update exercise.
Kayihura while meeting a group of musicians at the Uganda Police Headquarters’ in Kampala specifically appealed to the musicians to compose songs which will help fight child sacrifice and promote peace so that crime is reduced.
Uganda’s increasing crime rates have been mostly attributed to drug abuse, unemployment and family breakdowns.
