There was drama in Kasese, western Uganda today as the police and UPDF soldiers arrested Forum for Democratic Change youth including Col. Kiiza Besigye’s body guards on Tuesday. The police rounded up the FDC supporters and Besigye’s body guards on Tuesday whom FDC had taken to Kasese to monitor the Wednesday’s Woman MP by election exercise.
Reports in Kasese indicate that the police and the army are beating up and arresting people they suspect not to be supporting the government candidate in the race.
Some of the FDC activists the army and police have arrested were got from guest houses in Kasese town council. The police have also surrounded the home of former Busongora South Member of Parliament; Christopher Kibazanga following intelligence reports that this senior FDC official was mobilizing support for the FDC candidate, Winnie Kiiza. There are three candidates in the race, Winnie Kiiza (FDC), Rehema Muhindo (NRM) and Rosemary Masika (Democratic Party).
