The wife of the Uganda Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) wife, Hon. Winnie Byanyima has been awarded the Uganda Heroes Nalubaale Medal for her contribution to the 1981 to 1986 NRA bush war struggle that brought President Yoweri Museveni and his current NRM government to power.
This comes as a surprise because Banyima, currently, one of the top officials at the United Nations development programme (UNDP) and former Mbarara Municipality Member of Parliament remains a strong critic of the current government.
Other opposition former top official awarded the Nalubaale medal is Garuga Musinguzi, who contested twice on the FDC ticket with the current NRM Secretary General Amama Mbabazi in Kanungu district.
These were part of the long list of people awarded medals by president Yoweri Museveni in celebrations held in Luweero district. Others includes; Hope Kivegengera, Shaban Bantariza and the principal private secretary of the president Amelia Kyambadde.
Meanwhile, the minister of Ethics and Integrity, Dr. Nsaba Buturo appealed to all Ugandans today to celebrate Uganda National Heroes Day because, it promotes peace, development and patriotism.
