Members of the Interparty Coalition (IPC) have vowed to fight on until the current electoral commission led by Eng. Badru Kiggundu is re-constituted.
Addressing journalists after the police blocked their rally at the clock tower grounds this afternoon, the President of Forum for Democratic Change, Dr. Kiiza Besigye re-echoed the IPC’s call on Ugandans of voting age to register and be able to participate in the 2011 general elections.
The group had earlier defied the police and staged a demonstration at the railway grounds despite heavy police deployment around the Kampala streets.
They were however intercepted by anti riot police as they matched towards clock tower grounds for a rally.
The police have vowed to crash such illegal demonstrations, advising the IPC members to follow the right procedure and seek police permission.
The Inter Party Cooperation accuses the electoral commission of being biased towards the ruling NRM government, a claim that the commission has often denied.
The IPC is a coalition of opposition political parties including the FDC, Justice Forum, Uganda Peoples’ Congress and Conservative Party.
