The cause of autism is not known although studies in most universities around the world including Oxford University point to genetic and environmental changes.
In Buganda kingdom (located in the central part of the current day Republic of Uganda), Autism is known as “KASIRU” or ZONTO.
Its symptoms may appear during infancy and the disorder is diagnosed at the age of thee years and these are: lack of eye contact, you could not share or relate emotions, inability to converse, repetitive use of words, echoing words without meaning.
Other symptoms are absence of imaginative play typical to 2 year age group, intense concentration while playing with child colleagues and compulsive engagement in activities that served no purpose.
