There were tears in Kampala today as Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) law enforcement officers demolished all kiosks owned by people from northern Uganda and West Nile. The kiosks demolished were at Arua Park in Kampala.
There was also stiff resistance as food vendors and the business community involved l in running battles with KCCA officials during the demolition exercise.
The northerners who have been operating kiosks at Arua Park, particularly the Lugbra were seen in tears as the KCCA officers demolished their kiosks and loaded their items and took them away.
The KCCA law enforcement officers were led by Emmanuel Opolo, the acting supervisor of law enforcement operations in KCCA. Opolo told journalists that these kiosks have been habouring criminals who deal in drugs and that the food vendors were not maintaining good hygiene.
