The Northern Uganda Transitional Justice Working Group has urged the government of Uganda to promote transitional justice in its efforts of peace rebuilding in Northern Uganda.

This comes at a time when Northern Uganda is steadily recovering from the Kony insurgency that it suffered from for over 20 years and the government has come up with various peace rebuilding programmes to assist the area successfully recover from that insurgency.

The Chairperson of the group, Hellen Acham has told journalists at Speke Resort Munyonyo that transitional justice mechanisms should be adopted for peace rebuilding because they contribute to individual healing which easily furthers reconciliation which reconciliation is seriously needed in the peace rebuilding process of Uganda.

Acham says the drive for a national reconciliation process ought to be become central to the attainment of peace in northern Uganda and that can best be done through transitional justice.

She says therefore the government should make policies on transitional justice and that those policies should be broad enough if they are to meet their desired end of peace rebuilding in Northern Uganda.
