It seems the woes in Democratic Party are not ending soon. Impecable sources at the DP headquarters in Kampala have intimated to us that the party is looking for another suitable person to replace Brenda Nabukenya as Luweero district woman MP.
Some of the party leaders accuse Nabukenya of having joined the party faction that plans to back Col. Kiiza Besigye for president in next general elections. The DP leaders want Nabukenya to return to DP main faction or to risk losing a chance to seek reelection on the DP ticket.
Sources further allege that Nabukenya doesn’t give respect to DP leaders yet they are her political masters. The Democratic Party is preparing to catapult Nabukenya at a time when she is battling an appeal case seeking to remove her from the August house.
The High Court in Kampala last year nullified the election of MP Brenda Nabukenya and directed the Electoral Commission (EC) to conduct fresh elections. Justice Vincent Zehurikize says there was failure to conduct the requested mandatory vote recount.
The court decision followed a petition in which former Luweero district woman MP Rebecca Nalwanga sued the commission, the Luweero District Returning Officer, Peter Kizito, and Nabukenya, saying there was disenfranchisement of voters and failure to conduct a mandatory recount.
This was the second time court nullified the election of Luweero Woman MP since February 18, 2011 general elections. Nabukenya, a Democratic Party candidate, won the November 2011 by-election beating ruling party candidate, Nalwanga with 14,945 votes against 14,915 votes. But Nabukenya appealed against the decision. Ends
