A group of residents from Bundibugyo have petitioned parlaiment over the continued delayed compensation after being displaced by the upgrading of the Fort Portal-Bundibugyo Lamia Road.
Meeting the deputy clerk to Parliament Paul Wabwire, the petitioners expressed disappointment by government departments that have dupped them for the last three years since the government valuers issued them with payment vouchers.
Presenting the petition, Ronald Mutegeki one of the beneficiaries said that over 1300 people along the Fort Portal Bundibugyo Lamia Road have lost homes, commercial buildings and coca plantations which were their source of income.
Mutegeki says the residents been tossed up and down by the Uganda National Roads Authority officials as they try to demand for their compensation, yet 6.3 billion shillings was released for this effect.
He warned that government ought to expedite the compensation payments in order to avert the ugly consequences of a possible strike since only 130 people have been paid.
The Bundibugyo District Woman MP Harriet Ntabazi made an outcry to the NRM leadership to rescue her electorate to avoid embarrassment and branding her as a liar.
The deputy clerk to Parliament Paul Wabwire assured the petitioners that the matter will be handled with the urgency it deserves by putting it on the agenda of the next parliamentary sitting when the National Assembly resumes on the 5th of November.
