Jenifer Musisi sends Erias Lukwago to Beijing

Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Director, Jenifer Musisi has sent the Lord Mayor of Kampala, Erias Lukwago to Beijing. According to sources in KCCA told us that Lukwago’s journey cost government 24 million Uganda Shillings.

Lukwago also confirmed that he was currently in Beijing attending a UNESCO Creative Cities Summit 2013.

The Lord Mayor also says that Kampala is bidding for a slot on the UNESCO’s Creative Cities network to be clustered amongst the cities for literature. This is premised on the fact that Kampala is a hub of academic excellence (tertiary level) in the Great Lakes Region coupled with its rich cultural heritage.

Despite the inadequate resources committed to the development of the reading culture in Uganda, this is a cause worth supporting by all Ugandans.

Lukwago says he will be in Kampala in a couple of days and he will update us on the resolutions taken and the implementation mechanism.
