Drug abuse and malaria has been identified as leading causes of mental
disorders among the youth in the eastern region of uganda
According to the pyschatric clinical officer jinja regional refferral
hospital Jude Isabirye most youth who vist the mental health unit at
the hospital have drugs and maralia effects.
He says that the majority of those affected range in ages between 18
years to 25 years and this is dangerous because that should be a
productive period for any person.
Isabirye however says that most youth find themselves taking drugs not
because they like but because of other challenges at home which
government and parents need to pay attention too.
He says that malaria is rampant in the eastern making it a common
cause for brain disorders.
