The Germany government through its development bank, (KFW) have today signed a concessional loan with the government of Uganda mounting to Euros 21 million that will be used to extend power to Entebbe with the project expected to last for five months.
Speaking at the signing of the loan in Kampala, the state minister for finance, Fred Jachan Omach who was very much delighted about the signing states that the project will have a tremendous effect on the power supply situation in Entebbe thus reducing losses and avoiding supply shortages due to insufficient transmission capacity.
However, the head of development cooperation at the Dutch embassy, Mr. Udo Weber mentions that the Germany govt is adding the euros 21m concessional loan to the euros 6m grant to fund the energy development project in the country with the aim of improving the economic status of this nation.
Meanwhile, the managing director Uganda electricity transmission company LTD (UETCL) Eriasi Kiyemba confirms that the project combines 35km of 132kv double circuit transmission line with the yet to kick off project to start from Mutundwe substation that will add to the current line.
