civil society releases damming report on NRM manifesto, government defends itself

Civil society under the umbrella body Uganda government monitoring platform has today launched an alarming reporting that evaluates the ruling party manifesto for 2011 which the report highlights not to have implemented what was promised by the party presidential candidate, Yoweri Museveni.

The report titled, a citizens’ midterm audit of the NRM govt in its fourth term highlights that out of the 50 commitments audited, the NRM has made progress on 17, limited or no progress on 24 and backtracked/ registered negative gains on 9 commitments.

According to the executive director Uganda NGO Forum, Richard Sewakiryanga the indicators in the report show that it is very clear that service delivery remains poor across the board hoping that the NRM Audit report will serve as a tool that will raise the focus on performance of government and delivery of the NRM as a party on its promises.

During a heated debate on the report, the govt publicist, Ofono Opondo defends govt by saying, a lot has been done to see that development is registered in all aspects of the nation though he does not rule out some failures in delivery.

But one of the officials from UPC, David Pulkor bushes the NRM for promoting selfish interest leaving nationals in a peasant life which indicates poor governance among the leaders.
