The Chief Magistrates’ Court in Nakawa has dismissed a case in which Forum for Democratic Change’s (FDC) women leader, Ingrid Turinawe, and Col. Kizza Besigye’s aides Mwijukye Francis and Mugumya Sam were accused of treason following the famous ‘Walk to Work’ protests in Kampala. The three FDC activists were kept in Luzira maximum Security prison for 3 months.
Now the court says the state has failed to bring evidence in two years and it has no option but to dismiss the case. The country remembers how the shameless Inspector General of Police, Gen. Kale Kayihura appeared in the media and said that he had evidence in black and white that the three FDC leaders unlawfully participated in the illegal protests.
This was at the time when the police swore an avidafit that FDC’s Mwijwikye should remain in Ankore sub region and he has been moving in his own country with a court and police pass/ permission.
But it is not clear whether the government is to pay for all the time the said FDC officials have wasted, the money they have lost moving up and down, the opportunities they have lost being confined to one place.
