Buikwe forests under attack for fire wood says forest officer.

BUIKWE NATURAL RESOURCE OFFICER DECRIES CONTINUED TREE CUTTING FOR WOOD

The natural resources officers for Buikwe district is strongly decrying the continued cutting down of forests by locals in the district which has left the area without any green cover to trap green gas emissions from factories and the residents.

Buikwe is one of the districts in the country that has been endowed with various natural resources including, Forests, like Mbira among others, lakes and rivers, swamps among other natural resources but are rapidily phasing out due to poor man’s activities which activities are causing a negative impact on the country’s environment.

Speaking to the district natural resource officer, Mr. Musoke Solomon at a consultative meeting with EMLI-Bwaise facility a local NGO that seeks to solve the issue of green gas emission in the district by empowering communities with better environment friendly methods of power, Musoke reveals that they have tired to teach local on how to conserve the environment but little has been registered and hope that this project will help empower the locals.

Meanwhile, Najembe sub county speaker, Mr. Lukyamuzi Mutwalib pins NFA officials for aiding the rapid cutting of trees in Mabira but states that council has passed by laws geared at helping save the forests and environment as a whole.

90% of homesteads in Buikwe are using charcoal and firewood to prepare meals among other eats which now creates massive fear that the forest cover might become a dream in the area.
