ORS Awards for Masters/PhD students: The British Government provides a number of awards each year to assist students in meeting the cost of the overseas rate of tuition fee where it applies – normally the amount given is the difference between that and the home rate of fee.
These awards are available to students of any nationality who are accepted for registration for the Masters/PhD degree.
They are competitive and depend on academic merit and research potential.
Application has to be made through the university. You cannot apply direct.
The application form must be completed and returned to the university by the end of April.
The only two criteria for winning an award are:
(1) academic ability, and (2) research potential. Other factors, such as: proposed field of study, financial status, nationality, ethnicity, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, religion/belief, marital status or any other inappropriate distinctions, will not be taken into account.
These awards are also available to students who have already started their research work for support during their second and subsequent years.
If you wish to be considered for nomination, you should contact the Administrative Secretary of the university you want to join by 31 March at the latest, in the year before entry to the Institute.
