Former Forum for Democratic Change president, Dr Kizza Besigye and Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago, slept the whole of Tuesday night in detention on charges of incitement to violence.
Dr Besigye was transferred from Kampala Central Police Station to Jinja Road Police Station in the middle of the night while Mr Lukwago was transferred from Naggalama Police Station in Mukono District to Kira Road Police Station in Kampala where he spent the night.
A police source said they wanted to detain the duo to allow all senior police officers including those in charge of Kampala Metropolitan Police, to meet the Internal Affairs Minister, Gen. Aronda Nyakairima, on Wednesday at Imperial Royale Hotel “without any interference”.
Police spokesman, Judith Nabakooba says the Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Directorate is still working on their files and would produce them in court once the process is finalised. However Besigye and Lukwago say they will continue with their demonstrations immediately after the police releases them.
