Why a person living with HIV/AIDS would not get treatment

Shock and fear many times reigns in the life of the person living with HIV/AIDS… Many people in the world don’t want to disclose their HIV/AIDS status to others due to fear of being belittled or laughed at by other members of the community. But as much as there is fear of being ostracised this should not be weightier than saving one’s own life.

Research shows that many women find out they are HIV positive when they have delivered or during their antenatal check ups.

Some of the people living with HIV are angry with whoever may have infected them or blame themselves for having acquired the disease. Also some teenagers who were born with HIV and don’t want to take ARV’S are angry with their parents for infecting them.
Other people living with HIV refuse to take the drugs, claiming they don’t have food…this is an issue, as some ARV’s combination have to be taken with food, while others increase one’s appetite. However some people can not afford food.
ARV’s fatigue, the treatment is a life-long commitment; it may break one’s will to continue taking medication, there by causing a decline in adherence. Also because of the side effects of ARVs such as nausea …some patients abandon the use of ARV’S.
