The court has fixed February 3rd 2014 for hearing of the case in which former Kampala mayor Haji Nasser Ntege Sebaggala is suing MTN telecom over ringtones copyright ownership.
The date was fixed by presiding judge Christopher Madrama. The case is registered at the Commercial Court in Kampala. Sebaggala is represented by his lawyers Nelson Walusimbi and Alan Musoke of Walusimbi and Company Advocates.
While MTN Uganda is represented by lawyer Paul Kuteesa of Kampala Associated Advocates. Sebaggala sued MTN together with SMS Media which is represented in this case by lawyer Paul Kawuma of Kiwanuka and Karugire Advocates in Kampala.
Sebaggala accuses MTN of infringing on his copyright by using his voice recordings as ringtones. The ringtones were produced by SMS Media and transmitted to MTN. The suit was filed on July 13, 2012. Sebaggala is demanding for proceeds from the sale of the ringtones. According to Sebaggala, president Museveni and Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi will give witness in his case. Sebaggala is one of president Museveni’s advisors.
