Journalists take on minister Kashaija over genetically modified organism.

Though the state minister for finance and economic planning, Matia Kasaija warns that 10 years from now Uganda will be importing food as a result of low food productivity, journalists did not welcome his warning with open arms as both parties disagreed on the issue of having GMOs introduced in the country.

The minister who calls on Mps to expeditiously pass the bio safety and technology law to have such scientific innovations used in Uganda so as to address such problems, says, bio safety and technology is not bad but seeks to solve problems of agriculture product quality and quantity adding that those that intend to unlawfully use the technologies stand to face the law as per the policy.

But the principal researcher at Kawanda research center, Andrew Kigundu and the chief executive science applications for development, Erastus Nsubuga confirm that GMOs are in the country already and we only need a law to regulate them stating that the innovations are geared to getting disease resistant crops adding that they have no harm to human health since they are tested according to world standards.
