Colonialists were better than Museveni’s regime, says Col. Besigye

Remember at the universities we were taught Human rights and Rights based approaches in our respective courses and academic disciplines.

Our lecturers and tutors taught us that every woman, man and child was entitled to the human rights prescribed in the universal declaration of human rights and also in our constitution.

In Uganda constitution principles of human rights are well laid down in the entire chapter 4 in the Bill of rights. They include; right to life, liberty and security of person, right to equality before the law, right to freedom of movement, residency, and nationality, freedom of thought, conscious, belief, religion and the right to hold and express opinions without interference.

Human rights are inalienable ones. No body has the authority to take them away from people. It is the duty of any state in the world to safeguard these rights. The states have a legal and moral obligation to guarantee and realise these basic human rights for all people.

The governments are duty bearers of these human rights and must honour their obligations to their citizens.  Opposition leader in Uganda, Col. Kizza Besigye says that the police brutality, injustices, extra judicial killings and unequal employment opportunities people are witnessing in Uganda today is antithetical to the above.

Besigye’s home and Kampala Lord Mayor Lukwago’s home were under occupation by Police and other para military operatives restraining their movements.

Museveni’s government always boasts of ushering in a legal regime but they are practicing to the contrary Dr.Besigye like any other Ugandan is free to move wherever he wants. He also says that he sometimes believes the colonialists were far better than the NRM regime of president Museveni.
