Civil society organizations under the Citizens Watch –IT Uganda have demanded government to increase on the facilities providing clean and safe water to stop people consuming and sharing water sources with animals.
A report of a survey carried out in central region, Acholi, Westnile, Teso, and Rwenzori regions released by Citizens Watch to Members of parliament at parliament indicate that 60% of communities in Uganda share water sources with animals.
The report says that 34% in central region, 75% in Teso, 53% in Acholi, 46% in west nile and 22% in Rwenzori region share water sources with animals.
The National coordinator Citizens watch –IT Uganda James Mwirima said that government has failed to achieve the Mellenium Development goal on safe water.
He called for establishment of water user committees at all levels for functionality of provision of safe water to the people.
