The Mufti of Uganda Ramadhan Mubajje has urged Muslims to wish their Christian counterperts a happy Christmas and prosperous new year.
He says it should be clear that Muslims are commanded to deal justly and kindly with their non-Muslim acquaintances, neighbors, friends, and families.
“Muslims are allowed to wish non-Muslims happiness on their festive days, e.g ‘happy x-mas’,” he said while preaching to Muslims at Gadaffi National Mosque in Kampala on Friday.
Mubajje says it is not bad in Islam to make these acts of compliment and friendliness. He says Jesus Christ is one of the great Messengers of Allah.
“Whoever thinks that wishing Christians a merry Christmas is bad is the one who is in the wrong,” he says adding that Muslims are not allowed to celebrate or participate in the religious festivities of Christians.
He says it is also wrong to force non-Muslims to embrace Islam, even if they stay in a Muslim state.
